According to the results of monitoring of the organic market 2020, presented by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine during the event “Export of organic products from Ukraine 2020: analysis and trends”, the share of land under organic production remains at 1% in Ukraine.

At the end of 2020, the total amount of land under organic production is slightly more than 462 thousand hectares, which is 5 thousand hectares less (-1.2%) than in 2019. At the same time, the number of lands with organic status increased by 26 thousand hectares (+ 6.8%).

The number of producers of organic products also decreased – from 490 in 2019 to 417 in 2020, but there are still more than 130 other certified operators of organic production on the market. Such operators include processing companies, importers and exporters of organic products.

It will be recalled that in early March, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in the National Economic Strategy set a goal to have at least 3% of the total amount of agricultural land in Ukraine under organic production by 2030. But, unfortunately, the mechanism of state support for organic producers still doesn’t work.

The monitoring is carried out by the Ministry of Economy (the Ministry of Agrarian Policy in the past) based on data collected from foreign certification bodies that certified organic production and circulation of organic products in Ukraine.

The operational monitoring data were collected by the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine (in the previous years – by Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine) from the foreign certification bodies which certified organic production and circulation of organic products in Ukraine.
