In mid-October, the launch of the organic sector grant program was announced funded by Switzerland within the framework of the Women Entrepreneurship in the Organic Sector (WEOS) project and the Swiss-Ukrainian programme Higher Value-Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector of Ukraine (QFTP) and aimed to support Ukrainian organic producers and promote further development of the organic market, to increase trade in Ukrainian organic products with higher added value on the domestic market.
A total of 40 applications were submitted, of which 33 grant projects will be supported, amounting to approximately CHF 160,000.
All grant-funded projects will be implemented in 13 regions of Ukraine, including frontline areas. 11 of the supported operators are located in frontline areas, and some are in significant proximity to the front line.
Particular attention was given to grant projects led or owned by women, resulting in 18 such initiatives receiving support. Additionally, one project will be implemented by an internally displaced person.
The activities of all grant projects are aimed at increasing sales of organic products, expanding the organic assortment on store shelves, improving product quality and increasing the shelf life of organic products, establishing new supply chains, and promoting organic products on the domestic market of Ukraine.
Expected outcomes of the grant-funded projects include the entry of at least 5 organic operators into the domestic market who previously focused on exports or operated through intermediaries. Furthermore, 7 new higher value-added organic products will be introduced, and 6 new organic production and distribution chains will be established, including the opening of new shops and sales points.
The support will also help more than 15 operators to improve products quality and their storage capacities, enhancing the availability of organic goods in the Ukrainian domestic market.
