Wikipedia is the largest open online encyclopedia in the world, serving as one of the most common sources of information for millions of users. When searching in a search engine for “organic production,” “organic certification,” or “organic market in Ukraine,” the relevant article from Wikipedia is always displayed in the top 3 search results.
According to statistics, in May 2024, there were 179 million views of Wikipedia pages in different languages in Ukraine, 73 million of them in Ukrainian and 16 million in English. It is important to note that in May 2024, the Ukrainian Wikipedia was viewed by 18,9 million unique devices, which ranks it 11th among the most visited websites in the country. Therefore, in order to provide Internet users with access to reliable and up-to-date information on the organic sector and to promote awareness on this topic, new articles on organic topics were updated and created in June 2024, which are now available in Ukrainian and English.
The updated and newly created articles include important aspects of Ukrainian legislation on the organic production, circulation and labelling of organic products. All the pages have been updated based on official information from reliable sources, such as the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine, the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, Organic Standard certification body, the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Frick, Switzerland), and IFOAM – Organics International. These updates are intended to provide access to the latest and most relevant information on organic production, promoting the topic among consumers and stakeholders.
The new article “Organic market in Ukraine” (Ukr. Органічний ринок в Україні) provides the latest information as of May 2024 on the current state of the organic market in Ukraine, including legislative changes regulating the sector. It also includes an updated list of key stakeholders in the organic sector and international technical assistance projects and programmes aimed at supporting, promoting and developing the organic market in Ukraine.
The list of updated articles includes:
- List of countries with organic agriculture regulation (Ukr. Законодавство в галузі органічного сільського господарства)
- Organic certification (Ukr. Сертифікація органічних продуктів)
- Organic farming (Ukr. Органічне виробництво)
- Organic food (Ukr. Органічні продукти).
This initiative was implemented jointly with OrganicInfo.ua within the framework of the Swiss-Ukrainian Program “Higher Value Added Trade from the Organic and Dairy Sector in Ukraine” (QFTP), funded by Switzerland and implemented by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland) in partnership with SAFOSO AG (Switzerland).
