For the first time, a comprehensive study on the production and exports of organic berries and nuts to the European Union has been conducted in Ukraine, confirming the strong development potential of these sectors.
The study was carried out in early 2026 by the Organic Standard certification body in cooperation with the State Institution “Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office” (EEPO, Ukraine), the national project Diia.Business, with the support of Switzerland within the framework of the Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP Ukraine) implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
Ukraine remains one of the biggest suppliers of organic products to the European Union, while the “fruit and nut” category represents the largest segment of EU organic imports. Ecuador remains the leading supplier in this category, primarily due to its exports of organic bananas. At the same time, Ukraine ranks among the top ten suppliers in this category thanks to its exports of organic berries and nuts. In value terms, berries and nuts account for more than one-third of Ukraine’s organic exports.
Organic Berries: Lower Volumes, Higher Value
In 2025, Ukraine exported 15.4 thousand tonnes of organic berries worth EUR 39.8 million. Although export volumes decreased by 12.5% compared to 2024, export revenues increased by more than 22%.
Wild-collected berries continue to dominate exports, accounting for 11.8 thousand tonnes worth EUR 27.1 million. Cultivated berries represented 3.6 thousand tonnes of exports worth EUR 12.7 million. Among cultivated berries, raspberries and strawberries accounted for the largest export volumes, while wild blueberry remained the undisputed leader among wild-collected berries.
In 2024, Ukrainian products accounted for around 30% of the EU’s organic raspberry imports and approximately 45% of organic blackberry imports. Nearly all organic blueberry imports into the European Union originate from Ukraine.
In 2025, organic berries from Ukraine were exported by 55 companies to 18 countries worldwide. The largest buyers were Poland, the Czech Republic, Italy, Germany, and Austria.
Organic Nuts: Record Export Growth
In 2025, Ukraine exported 4.9 thousand tonnes of organic nuts worth EUR 16.6 million. Compared to the previous year, export volumes increased by 91%, while export value more than doubled.
Currently, Ukraine’s organic nut exports consist exclusively of walnuts. However, organic production of hazelnuts and almonds is also certified in the country, creating opportunities for further diversification of exports.
Ukraine continues to hold strong positions in the European organic walnut market. In 2024, the country ranked second among suppliers of organic walnuts to the EU, surpassed only by Moldova.
