{"id":3888,"date":"2019-07-20T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/organicinfo.ua\/news\/two-weeks-before-the-law-through-retailers-eyes\/"},"modified":"2019-10-11T00:29:10","modified_gmt":"2019-10-10T21:29:10","slug":"two-weeks-before-the-law-through-retailers-eyes","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/organicinfo.ua\/en\/news\/two-weeks-before-the-law-through-retailers-eyes\/","title":{"rendered":"Two weeks before the law through retailers\u2019 eyes"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two weeks before the Law of Ukraine No 2496-VIII <a href=\"https:\/\/zakon.rada.gov.ua\/laws\/show\/2496-19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cOn the basic principles and requirements for organic production, circulation and labeling of organic products\u201d<\/a> taking effect, on 19 July 2019, the round table \u201cMarketing and Trade of Organic Products\u201d was held.<\/p>\n<p>The round table organizers were the projects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/safpiu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0\u201cEU Support to Agricultural and Food Policy Implementation in Ukraine<\/a>\u201d and <a href=\"http:\/\/bioagro.znau.edu.ua\/ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201cGerman-Ukrainian Cooperation in the Field of Organic Agriculture\u201d<\/a> together with the Information Centre \u201cGreen Dossier\u201d and <a href=\"https:\/\/biologic.tv\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">biologic.tv<\/a> with the support of <a href=\"https:\/\/minagro.gov.ua\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the Ministry of Agrarian policy and Food of Ukraine<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the largest retail chains and small stores which offer organic food products, law-makers, organic producers, and industry associations were among 60 participants of the event.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the round table was to familiarize the participants with the legislative requirements in organic production and to get the feedback on the organic legislation \u2013 criticism, concern, worries, and the issues which should be taken into consideration during adoption of by-laws, as the work on their elaboration is in progress. The Law and its by-laws have to regulate the organic market, safeguard consumers from buying pseudo organic products and, first of all, protect responsible organic producers.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, starting from 2 August, the Law prohibits to use the inscription \u201corganic\u201d, \u201cbiodynamic, \u201cecological\u201d and\/or any single-rooted words and\/or derivatives from these words with prefixes bio-, eco-, in particular, in the names of trade marks, graphic presentation, product name or any other information for consumers without the certificate which confirms organic origin of such products. For the first time ever, the Law introduces administrative liability for labeling the products in breach of the law in the field of organic production, circulation and labeling of organic products and for selling organic products without proper confirmation. Therefore, compliance with the law is becoming a common responsibility of producers and retailers. During the round table, Guidelines on Organic Food and Feed Labelling were presented. They contain legislative requirements to organic food and feed labelling with account of general requirements to food labelling; requirements to imported food labelling as well as guidelines on the state organic logo use.
