In 2024, Ukraine\u2019s organic sector demonstrated a renewed export capacity. After a decline in 2023, export volumes increased to 243 thousand tonnes<\/strong>, highlighting the adaptability and resilience of Ukrainian producers even under challenging conditions. The total export value amounted to USD 141 million<\/strong>, matching the previous year\u2019s figure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Organic operators were able to partially resume waterway transport, which lowered logistics costs. It is also important to note that more Ukrainian companies are reducing their reliance on traders by establishing their own EU-based representations, which further decreases overall export costs by limiting intermediary involvement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As in previous years, Ukraine\u2019s organic exports are dominated by three key crops: soybeans, corn, and wheat<\/strong>. Ukraine remains the largest supplier of organic cereals to the EU<\/strong> and holds third place<\/strong> among exporters of organic oilseeds and protein crops (soybeans, sunflower, rapeseed). This stable export core accounts for the majority of volumes and reinforces the competitiveness of Ukrainian organic products on the global market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

European market continues to play a central role in the geography of Ukrainian organic exports \u2014 with nearly 93%<\/strong> of shipments directed there. However, the share of EU countries slightly decreased in 2024, even though the actual import volumes of Ukrainian organic products to the EU increased and reached 203.9 thousand tonnes<\/strong>, returning to 2022 levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time, 2024 saw an increase in shipments to North America<\/strong>, primarily the United States<\/strong>, which imports Ukrainian organic soybeans and sunflower oil. With the start of the full-scale invasion, exports to North America almost stopped \u2014 previously this region accounted for around 20% of Ukraine\u2019s organic exports. The renewed growth in this direction was supported, among other factors, by the partial restoration of waterway logistics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The main importers of Ukrainian organic products in 2024 remain the Netherlands, Germany, and Austria<\/strong>. The Netherlands continues to function as one of Europe\u2019s most important logistical hubs, while Germany is among the largest end-markets for organic products in the EU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of 2024, Ukraine significantly strengthened its position on the EU market. According to the European Commission<\/a>, Ukraine once again rose from fifth to third place<\/strong> among the largest suppliers of organic products to the EU. Export volumes grew by 17.4%<\/strong>, reaching 203.9 thousand tonnes<\/strong>, which accounts for 7.7%<\/strong> of all organic imports into the EU. This confirms Ukraine\u2019s status as one of the EU\u2019s key partners in the organic trade sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
